As you may have heard on the news, Christchurch NZ has experienced some severe quakes and devastation. I have dear friends there who told me that buildings have been destroyed and roads are undrivable. There have been many casualties and missing persons. They said that the lack of sleep from all the aftershocks is one of the worst aspects of the quakes. Imagine not having a decent night’s sleep for days on end!! Please keep them in your prayers. Thanks!!
So when I was in Ithaca Bakery these guys come in with these very nice jackets that said “Harlem Globetrotters” on the back. My friend said ”I wonder if they are players??” – Not being particularly shy, I told her I would ask them. well sure enough, they were!! We chatted for awhile and they told us they were playing up here that night. Just then a few more walked in the door, we had a nice chat and it wassuper cool meeting them.. A very nice bunch of men!! I remember watching the cartoons when I was younger – loved Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal- Sweet Georgia Brown!! Have a hoopy day!!
Dear Abby,
Thanks for reading my letter. I have a problem maybe you can help me with. (other than ending sentences with prepositions!) I really enjoy going to my Zumba class but everytime they play “She Bangs”, I start giggling. I don’t think it is because Ricky Martin sings it – which IS funny in and of itself – but because I keep thinking of William Hung’s version of it!! I just start giggling and can’t stop. My friend also starts laughing because she knows why I am laughing, this starts an evil but hilarious cycle. This is annoying as I am trying to concentrate on working out. Do you have any ideas? Thank you – (signed), Ina Pickle
My friend Jamie and I took her father, reknowned architect Andrew Geller, up to the Ithaca Airport to see my show. He loves my work and I think his favorite is the one I dedicated to him – go figure!! After, we had lunch at Ithaca Bakery – they ordered cream cheese and lox on onion bagels- oy vey- and I had “The Vegetarian” veggie bagel but with bacon, which my friend Eva calls “The Hypocrite”!!! Hope you all have an oinky day!!
And while we are on the subject of animals, here is my opinion on the following small primates:
In order from highest on the cute o’ meter to most freaky freakish freak show…
Lemurs, Bush Babies (which are kindof tied depending on the type of lemur- bush babies are cuter than colugas, for instance…), Pottos, Lorises, Tarsiers and Aye-Ayes…however, all of these are cuter than monkeys… Have a cuddly day!
Have a bug-eyed day!!
I keep getting email photos about these MOST ADORABLE baby porcupines – but they are NOT porcupines, they are baby hedgehogs!! I email this fact to the senders, but to no avail – no one cares that they have the wrong species!! (even if you Google baby porcupine images, half the photos are really hedgehogs!!) I guess cute is cute and I just have to deal with it….spines and all! One of my most fantastic experiences to date was petting a full-grown tame porcupine and feeding it an apple…amazing!! and BTW, baby porcs ARE CUTER than hedgehogs, sorry!! Have a quilly vs. spiny kindof day!!
Kudos to the hardworking folks at BEDS 4 KIDS in Owego. They provide free matresses and beds for people in need. They also run SaveMore Furniture, which offers discount furniture. They are located at the old Middle School – 100 Elm Street, Owego NY. Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am – 5pm. Check it out.
My hubby and I attended a terrific concert in Geneva, NY last night at the Smith Opera House – Carlene Carter on a black Johnny Cash Martin (number 24!) and Mike Emerson on burnin’ piano. It was general admission and we got there early, (after a few wineries on the way up Seneca Lake!) - Front Row Seats!! She was funny, warm and covered alot of years of heartful experience. You got a glimpse of what it was like growing up in the Carter family and with June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash just by the music she presented. Afterward she was available for autographs and photos….we had a great time and look forward to seeing Roseanne Cash in February. Have a countrified kindof day!! ( And you thought I was going to bring up the infamous quote she said during one of her concerts….hey, this blog is G-rated!!!)
Have you seen the mashup of Pink Floyd’s “ The Wall” and Bee-Gee’s “Staying Alive” on youtube?? It’s called “Stayin’ Alive in the Wall” by WaxAudio….A Classic already!!
and have a disco/treatise on the effects of war/use of the educational system to conform minds to a single product kindof day!!
So my son told me in India it is like one big amusement park and the cabs/rickshaws are the ride. He said the drivers are wild and they clear each other by less than an inch and despite the mobs, bikes, other rickshaws and general chaos, no one gets hit or crashes. There are no traffic rules apparently. He does say there are plenty of three legged dogs……hmmm…. So next time we are in NYC, he states we will only ride with Indian cabbies, they are the true professionals!! Have a hair-raising kindof day!
